Birds have very specific cage needs depending on their breed and amount of time they’ll spend in the cage. For instance, parrots and crows need advanced locking mechanisms if you want to be sure these clever avians don’t escape. In general, the longer the amount of time spent in a cage, the larger and sturdier it should be. The same is true for size; a parrot needs the biggest and strongest cage available, as they have been known to rip bars off of flimsy contraptions. Stainless steel is an excellent choice for a durable material and free standing aviaries are ideal for birds that will call it home 24 hours a day. For these permanent cage dwellers, toys are another important component, so be sure to hang some from the ceiling and on the sides. When letting your bird out of the cage, a convenient place for them to have some fun is the play top: an area on top of the cage that comes with horizontal bars, ladders and other structures for your pet to hang out on. We have this option covering the entire range of cages (small, medium, and large). When birds gnaw on their cages (they almost always do), any zinc or lead present in the bars can build up in their system over time and damage their health.
